On the shores of Pengcheng, the digital light is shining. On November 4, the WLAN Application Alliance (WAA) Launch Summit 2022, sponsored by Huawei and the Industry and Standards Innovation Service Center, was successfully held in Shenzhen.

The theme of the summit was "Create a new experience of WLAN". Leaders of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Shenzhen Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, Shenzhen Bureau of Civil Affairs, and other units delivered speeches for the summit. Representatives of State Grid Shandong Electric Power, Huawei, Hisilicon, Tencent, China Telecom, ZTE, and other enterprises attended the summit. Discuss together how to build an open and international WLAN industry development platform, establish a scenario-based WLAN certification system and a complete performance standard system, and unite industry partners to build the best WLAN application experience. Shenzhen Market Supervision Administration, Shenzhen Futian District Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone Construction and Development Affairs Department relevant leaders attended the meeting.

As an important last-mile access technology, according to statistics, more than 70% of global network traffic comes from WLAN network access, and the global industry value will reach 34 trillion by 2025. In the future, the basic communication network will develop into a smart network characterized by communication plus perception plus computing power, and its technical characteristics include 10-gigabit bandwidth, deterministic demand, and large connection. However, the current WLAN still has poor performance in actual use (such as slow network speed, dropped lines, etc.), and the user experience guarantee still has great challenges.

The birth of WAA is to make up for this shortcoming, aiming to create an open and international WLAN industry development platform, establish a scene-based WLAN performance standard certification (within the alliance) system, and build the best WLAN application experience. To accomplish this mission, the alliance will take standard, certification, and open source as the three major starting points to gradually optimize customer experience from "connected experience" to "interactive experience" to "application experience". WAA plans to issue three sets of evaluation standards and authorize five certified laboratories in 2023, through the comprehensive testing of 38 subcategories in six categories, including basic performance, coverage performance, channel resource allocation, networking, reliability, and anti-interference. Ensure WLAN application performance in multiple scenarios such as home, enterprise park, smart grid, industrial Internet, smart medical care, and IoT Internet of Things.

The vision of WAA is to provide the best WLAN experience for the digital world. At this conference, Academician Ping Zhang, chairman of WAA, pointed out that WAA is an important practice to implement the national standardization development outline, which is based on China and faces to the world, from the perspective of building the best WLAN application experience, and other international alliances such as IEEE, the formation of the whole ecology, and common prosperity of the WLAN industry, which is the value of WAA.
